Trips with timing, not casual spins

Alexandria wind, Cairo connectors, Red Sea climbs, and the home Delta return — destination corridors treated as logistics problems with poetry attached, not Strava trophies.

Overview

Four corridors from the Tanta desk

Each corridor has a sheet code, seasonal window, and honesty about what makes it hard — wind, traffic rhythm, or honest elevation.

COR-03

Alexandria — crosswind as a second rider

The Tanta–Alexandria corridor is not one long flat gift. It is a negotiation with Mediterranean crosswind, industrial edges, and the moment the road opens to coastal exposure without shade. Riders who treat it as a single-day ego ride from Gharbia usually learn humility around km 90 — or they learn nothing because they never arrive.

Kassa recommends two to three days: overnight near Damanhour or similar midpoint depending on wind, then coastal approach with café stops treated as shelter strategy, not Instagram pauses. Wind from the north turns return legs into a different sheet entirely — plan both directions before you roll out.

  • Best season: Oct–Apr when heat load is manageable
  • Distance: ~180–220 km depending on route variant
  • Hard factor: Wind > elevation
  • Gear: Road or gravel 32 mm · spare tubes · lights for fog
Café rule Coastal cafés are recovery infrastructure. Know which towns have shade and water before you need them. Desk route pack available on request: [email protected]

COR-07

Cairo — a scheduling problem, not a bravery contest

Early morning city cycling
Early Friday beats noon traffic every week

Cairo from the Delta is less about distance than about when you cross which ring. The desk publishes connector sheets that favour early Friday roll-outs, minimal urban core exposure, and pre-agreed bail-outs to rail or support pickup. This is not touring Cairo by bike at rush hour — that is a different sport with different insurance implications.

Experienced local riders sometimes use Cairo as a hub for further corridors. First-timers should talk to the desk, join a planned group if one is listed, or take rail with bike and ride the edges — a valid choice we respect without sneering.

Factor Desk guidance
Start window 04:30–05:30 from Tanta fringe
Urban core Avoid · use published connectors only
Support Recommended first attempt
Lights Mandatory · pre-dawn segments

COR-11

Red Sea — honest climbs, louder sun

Red Sea corridors from the Delta are camp trips, not “bike in the boot sightseeing.” Elevation appears honestly here — long drags on exposed road, heat reflecting off rock, and distances between water that punish optimism. Kassa publishes seasonal group camps with support vehicles, fixed bail-outs, and gear checks before departure.

Solo attempts on unfamiliar Red Sea roads without local knowledge are outside desk recommendation. The climbs are rideable; the logistics are the hard part — sleep, water resupply, and mechanical backup in towns that may not stock your cassette.

  • Season: Dec–Mar primary · avoid summer entirely
  • Format: 3–5 day camp · group only for desk-endorsed trips
  • Gear: Climbing legs + full desert kit list
  • Announcement: Events page · 3–4 weeks ahead

DLT hub

Home Delta — where every corridor returns

Every destination trip ends back in Gharbia’s green geometry — El-Galaa desk, chain wash, and the quiet satisfaction of a loop closed. The home Delta is not a consolation prize after Alexandria or Red Sea; it is the classroom where you earned the right to attempt those corridors.

Return routes from north coast or Cairo connectors have their own sheets — often wind-assisted in one direction and brutal in the other. Plan recovery days on short Delta loops before you pretend the trip is still “easy flat.”

Return from north

COR-03R variants · wind-dependent · often split across two days with midpoint sleep.

Return from Cairo

Early start · reverse connectors · rail bail-out valid if heat wins.

Recovery loops

DLT-07 · DLT-02 · 28–42 km · no ego pace · desk favourites after long trips.
